Installation Hangups

By launcrase ·
I am running Windows 2000 Pro on my new computer. It is a dual celeron 533 with 256 ram. When I try to install Acrobat reader or Icq 2000 they both hang up after copying their dll files and such. Reader just quits like nothing happened and icq gets 100% done copying and locks up the system. The step by step cd that came with 2000 also will not install. When I click on install it thinks for a little bit and then quits. Do I have something setup wrong? Any ideal would be helpful.

Did you close all running applications/programs before you started the installation of Acrobat Reader or Icq?

Check Startup folder from Windows Explorer. Any programs listed here are running in the background. Close them through Task Manager thenrestart Install of Acrobat Reader

Also check the registry. HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run

Enjoy!

Check to see if you have anti-virus running in the back ground to scan files during install and make sure that you have the latest drivers loaded.
