Installation of Office 2000 on an old pc

    I have an old Compaq Prolinea 5133, it’s a
133Mhz machine and has a 1.5 Gig Hdrive and 16 Mgs of Ram. Is there any
way that I can install Office 2000 on it? It’s the default application at
work and I’m really missing out on working at home.

How much free space have you got on the C:\ the installation takes about 300 mb as I remember. While it may then install its going to be very slow with only 16MB of RAM, could some kind techie put in more RAM for you?

With only 16Mbs of Ram Office 2000 will not probably even load all the way.

Word might work, but Excel and Outlook will not start. I would be very surprised if Windows Installer even let you finish the install.

However 16Mb of Simm Ram is not that expensive and would take 10 minutes to fit to your machine. This would then fully enable O2K to run on the machine. We have P75 with 760MB HD’s and 32Mb of Ram running O2K.

The installation will depend alot on free disk space and the manual or microsoft web site will give you the requirements to install Office 2000 on your system. One you donot have enough memory and the bios will need to be updated to support office applications.Office will run a setup process to see if it can install,if you to experiment to determine the necessary requirements to load.
