Installation process for Windows 98.

Can I please get the installation process for Windows 98 ? I need it for a school research project.

There are different options to Installing WIN98
Upgrade over 95
Clean install

Short and sweet: get yourself a startup floppy (preferably one that came with the Win98 package or one made with Win98 under the Add/Remove Programs option in the control panel). Boot with this disk. It will give you CD-ROM access and allow you to format the drive if necessary. Simply boot from this disk and run SETUP.EXE from the Win98 CD-ROM and it basically walks you through it from there. Best way to learn it is get in and do it if you have an opportunity (i.e., don't format one of the school's machines without explicit permission). Just make sure you have your CD Key and certificate handy. Best of luck!

1) Boot the machine into DOS. To do this start the machine normally, after started click on start --> shutdown --> restart in MS-DOS mode

2) When you are at the command prompt C type format c: and press enter. press Y to agree and then press enter.

3) After the format is complete you will be asked to enter in a name for the drive upto 11 characters.

4) Put the Win98 CD in the drive and reboot.

5) When the computer reboots it will say something like press del to enter setup, when you see this press del.

6) You will be brought to a blue screen that says CMOS setup utility.

7) Look for a line that says BIOS FEATURES SETUP.

Use the arrow keys to highlight this line and press enter.

9) When the next screen appears look for the line that says BOOT SEQUENCE.

10) Again use the arrow keys to highlight this line and press pageup on the keyboard until it reads CRDOM,A,C

11) Next press esc, this will take you back to the main setup screen.

12) Press F10 to save changes, when asked SAVE TO CMOS AND EXIT press Y

13) The machine will no reboot.

14) When the screen appears asking about how to boot use the arrow keys and highlight boot computer with CD-ROM support

15) The drivers for the CD-ROM will now be installed.

16) When you get to the command prompt again type in and press enter

17) Next type in CD win98 you must have a space between the D and win98

1 Next type in setup.exe. This will start the install program for Windows 98

19) Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation of Windows 98

20) You will have to install you other programs after the installation is complete.
