Installed dinosor game cd roms wont work

By Casemaker ·
Hi,
I have 2 pcs in my shop. the owner said he tred to install a dinosaur video game. The first machine is 98 and the second is xp. After installing the games the cd would open and close and now it will not recognize cd's of any kind. The cd is in my computer and is recognized in bios but will not read the disks. I have tried changing the position of cd from sec master to pri slave and nothing. Also tried new cd.

Run a good virus scan. Wouldn't be first time a program was released with a virus.

Could also be a driver issue. Uninstall any optical drive software, disconnect drive, reboot and shutdown, reconnect and reinstall optical drive software (e.g. Nero, EZ CD Creator).

Is this same drive or 2 or more drives exhibiting behavior? I took your description to mean that 3 drives failed after having game CD in them.

Thank You, Disk is retail from store, unlikely it has a virus. Also diconnected drives and rebooted and reinstalled.

I'd say that at this point, the drive itself is the problem. A bad drive will register in the bios, device manager, etc.

Last option before replacing the drive is to get a lens cleaner (about $ CD and give that a try.

Best of luck.

Thank You for answering the question, I have already tried a replacement drive with the same results.

Just because it's a commercial CD doesn't mean that it is virus or adware free. It most likely is, but not for certain (especially if pirated and looks like legitimate software). Also some copy protection schemes may affect CD drivers.

Also check any accompanying software, DirectX updates, or anything else installed by CD.

You said he tried installing the game. Did he succeed? If so, have you unistalled the game. If he didn't succeed the game could have installed drivers or changed some settings regarding the cd.

A couple of things to try:

1-remove the cd from device manager and do a refresh so the system reinstalls it. Test it to see if it works.

2-do a repair installation over the top of your existing installation.

Cheers.
