Installing Add-ons

Our school district is currently training and reviewing the MarcoPolo web site. We meet the minimum hardware requirement but to fully utilize the sites we are told we will need several add on application like Shockwave, Realaudio, Quicktime, and Flash. What impact, if any, would this have on our workstations, and our network, if we were to install these on our workstations?
