installing analog modem in 2000 server

hi all,
such a simple matter -i thought,on installing an analog 56k modem on a win2k server recently,i loaded driver-fine, tests ok via control panel,dials my mobile phone via hyper terminal,but will not browse the web?tcp is configured to use default gateway on remote network,but no luck,removed reinstalled etc etc,still no luck.this was a brand new modem responds to at+t8 in hyper terminal ok,but no www?
i also tried to remove tcp to reinstall it but i couldnt because it was bound to dns and wins and lots more stuff i would have had to reconfigure if removed,any simple solutions would be greatly appreciated,it is intel chipset modem
i also tried numerous isps…
