Installing Controler Card Settings

By djballge ·
I installed a 160GB Hard drive which came with a PCI Controler card and data cable, which I installed IAW the instructions. My CDROM did not work on the secondary controler card slot. So I connected it to the mother board secondary slot and it works but the computer needs the OS disk to start. Do I need to disable both IDE slots on the mother board so the computer will boot from the PCI controler card or what? Any help out there? Please!!

drives attached to a controller card are usually treated as SCSI devices by the motherboard and BIOS. You do not need to disable anything else to boot from the new hard drive on your controller card, you only need to set the card (probably SCSI something) ahead of your hard drives in the boot sequence.

Why not just install the hard drive via the motherboard connect where your old drive was plugged in. you may not even need the extra controller and you would be set! Good Luck!
