Installing DVD ROM

By RHW2853 ·
I have purchased a DVD ROM and I have tried to install it into a computer with a CD drive already installed. I have done something wrong, because now the computer does not recognize the CD drive which was working properly before I opened the computer. Can anyone help?

Installing DVD ROM

Start with the jumpers on the back of the drives. If they are both on the same IDE channel (cable) one needs to be set as master, the other drive should be set as slave.

Next, at bootup, enter BIOS setup, and make sure that the appropriate drivesare enabled, and set to either Auto or CD-ROM. Save settings, and exit setup.

If they are not on the same IDE channel, I suspect that you may have loosened the IDE cable to the CD-ROM drive.
So, make sure that all cables are fully seated.

If you are planning to use the DVD drive to watch DVD movies, you will need to install DVD player software.
If this was a retail packed drive, you might have a CD that came with the drive. Also, some video cards come with DVD player software.
