Installing IIS on Netware Server

By jagldg ·
I have created a web site using Front Page and discovered that the IIS extensions are required to be installed on our Netware server. I know MS has a lot of security holes with IIS. My question is, will these security holes become available on our Netware Server or is Novell able to withstand these problems. We are using Netware 5.5.

Installing IIS on Netware Server

Sorry, but I think you're out of luck. The Front page extensions are pretty much an MS/IIS only kind of thing. I heard of an early port for them to *nix, but I think compatibility became a moving target and so they've been dropped.

There's no NetWare 5.5; there is a 5.0, 5.1, or 6.0. NW6.0 comes out of the box with the Apache web server. It can be added to NW5.1. They all come with Perl, which can be used to do server-side scripting.

For the most part, the "features" of FPE can be duplicated with javascript or server-side perl. (DreamWeaver is my weapon of choice for creating web sites. ymmv)
