I AM REQUESTING ASSISTANCE AFTER FAILING TO GET ONE FROM THE LOCAL IT PERSONEL.USING WINDOWS 98 I CANNOT PRINT THROUGH LPT 1.AFTER CHECKING WINDOWS SYSTEM MANAGER I NOTICED AN ADDITIONAL WORD INFRONT OF LPT 1. IT READS 'EPSON LPT1'.NOW,IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THIS FROM READING 'EPOSON LPT1' TO READ JUST 'LPT1'.

INSTALLING LPT 1 PORT

Remove all your printer drivers. Then, go into your system BIOS and make sure that your printer port is reset back to it's default settings in the bios. Then reboot and the computer should find LPT1 port. With HP printer software, you are not supposed to install the printer except through HP's setup software (I do not know if EPSON is the same -- check your manual instructions). Install your printer as per manual. You should be okay at this point.

Go to the device manager and the lpt1 port.
go to properties and change it to a standaard lpt1 port.
That should do it.
install a generic printer and test it like that.
if succesfull you can install the printer and do a testpage. If it doesn't work you would know its the printersoftware that is interfering with the lpt1 port. Then you have to look for a update version or when you are installing the printer look for a model close to yours and install that one.
