Installing Network Printer

By kienlam ·
I have a LINKSYS WAG54G ADSL Modem/Router. I also have a Hp 4100tn network printer that I have attempted to connect directly to one of the network ports on the WAG54G unit.

Can someone instruct me as to how to go about installing the printer as at the moment I cannot see the printer from any of my networked computers.

What is the IP address of the printer? If you connect it to the Linksys, it would be by ethernet or USB, and the printer would have an internal printer server, but the printer / printer server would need to have an Ip address so that it could be identified on the network or by the router.

The internal printer server is prob a jetdirect, and you would need to set that with the IP if you haven't already.

let us know how u get on,

If you go in your configuration interface of the router you should find the printer (IP). Maybe it's not necessary but... After that you just add a printer to your PC in a (almost) normal way. Just choose an network printer instead of local. And it's done.

Thanks for the response to my query. I solved it as I had DHCP set on and once I turned it off, my printer picked up the correct IP from my LINKSYS and I got it all working.

If you still need help you first need the ip from the printer. Do a print configuration page from the printer. It will give you two pages. on second page is listed ip address. you can also reconfigure it by matching subnet from you rpc and changing last digits of ip to whatever you want (usually a few higher then your pc if you have small network) then go to printers and faxes on pc and add pritner. choose local printer and then add a new port and choose standard ip port then enter the ip address from the printers cofnig page. right away it shoudl say hp jetdirect on next menu that pops up and then you pick a driver form the menu and your done.
