Installing ODBC Drivers

By derek_n ·
I want to re-install an Oracle 73 ver2.5 ODBC driver onto my Windows 95 PC and I keep getting an invalid page fault in module MSVCRT.DLL brought on by ORAINST. When I try to uninstall the driver I get the same fault. How can I get around this problem?

I have often found the only solution is to delete the *entire* Oracle folder, and re-install...

Was very useful for the purposes of re-installing the ODBC driver but did not solve the real problem - still couldn't connect to the database. Deleting the Oracle folder, re-installing Windows, and then re-installing the driver eventually solved theproblem.

This appears to be a compatability issue with the small-block heap memory manager you have installed on your system vs. the one the Oracle application was developed under. See article Q190536 in the Microsoft support pages for a full description ofthis problem and the Service Pack you need to install for a work around.

This solution from MS Technet was the first thing that I tried and that Libraries Update did nothing to help - if anything, things started slowing down.

I think its a DLL version conflict with another MS product, there is a searchable database of DLL's at;

http://support.microsoft.com/servicedesks/fileversion/dllinfo.asp?fr=0&sd=msdn

It shows the following as being the latest version;

Name:msvcrt.dll
Description: Microsoft (R) C Runtime Library
Version: 6.1.8637.0
DLLSelfRegister: No

I would download the latest version and try it with that. That said I stick to SQL Net 8 as its backwards compatible,

Regards,

Andrew.

Downloaded this too, to no avail. SQL*Net 8 sounds like a good idea though. Thanks.
