Installing parallel port card.....

If the new parallel port card you are trying to install is not PNP you will have to set the I/O address and IRQ on the new card to what ever address you need..
It will be easier if you enable the on board parallel port but remember it doesn't work.. Check the I/O setting or even better change them to 3BC, IRQ 7 and the new card you are installing to 378, IRQ7. After windows has set up and identified the on board port shut down you system secure the new card in the slot and power on the computer. After windows boots up use the add new hardware but do not let window autodect, manualy select ports and lpt windows will assign the next available I/O address for parallel port. Make sure that these address and irq is the same as you set on the new card. You will have to change your installed printer(s) to the new port.. Don't worry about the IRQ's the on board port you are not using anyway.

Keep a smile on your face and no one can tell what you are thinking...

Make sure the Parallel Port is disabled in the BIOS.
If it is enabled, it will conflict with the new card.
You are going to set the new card up the old way.
Put the new card in the PC.
Boot.
Since it is not plug and play, on the new hardware setup, tell Win98 not to seach.
Manually select a driver that is close to matching the card.
(SPP , EPP , ECP)
Do not reboot.
Go to Device Manager, and manually force the resources to match the settings on the new card.
03BC and IRQ 7 is best, but WARNING, 03BC may conflict with some video cards. 0378 and IRQ 7 is safer.
Remember, until the Pentium, there were no ports in the BIOS, there was only the Hard Drive settings. Plus, no BIOS call is necessary for printing under Win98.
