Installing Printer on Terminal Services

By ask_anurag ·

I have windows 2000 advanced server with active directory installed.I have also ten windows 2000 professional clients.I installed the terminal services so that my clients can access application from it.Also I have HP Officejet 6110 and Officejet 7130.I want to install these printers on my terminal services so that my users can print any document or scan any document from terminal services.

How i do it.

I would appreciate if someone provides step by step procedure.

Thanks and Regards.

You need to do 2 things. 1) install IDENTICAL print drivers in the Terminal Server and the TS Client workstations. In your case you only need to install the W2000 version of the HP6110 and 7130 printers. You should then be able to "see" the printers while in terminal services mode. 2) since most of the workstations will be dynamically logging on and off, anyone printing to shared networked printers will have problems unless their printers are set to print to a set LPTn port. To do this, while in local mode add the printers as LOCAL printers and specify LPT2 or LPT3 and do not share. Then, in command mode, use the NET USE command to redirect the shared printer to LPT2 and LPT3.
Example:NET USE LPT2: \\printserver\printername /persistent:yes

ie: NET USE \\anurag\HP6110 /persistent:yes

Note: make sure that the shared printer name on the print server is short (also the print server name should be kept short).

Hope this helps

Oops command should read:

NET USE Lpt2: \\anurag\HP6110 /persistent:yes where you would substitute the print server computer name for "anurag" and the shared printer name for "HP6110"
