    Hello TechRepublic community,

I’m planning to upgrade my ThinkPad laptop by installing a SAS 6GBPS HDD/600GB-10K RPM-2.5Inch drive. Has anyone here successfully done this before? Are there any specific steps, challenges, or considerations I should be aware of during the installation process? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

Do you want to install it replacing the current disk or as an additional disk just for storage?

Have you confirmed that the drive is compatible with your laptop? Not only must the drive be compatible, the drive dimensions must fit as some manufacturers require users to buy only their products to work correctly. I would reach out to the Thinkpad community directly first. This site and its members may offer some insight but that is my opinion.

That does not sound like an upgrade.

Besides the SAS adaptation problem which is dead on arrival, this would be far slower than the cheapest 1TB SSD we can buy here for less money than a new HDD of the type you noted.
