Installing W2K

By richard.colond ·
I fdisked and cleaned my computer which had NT4, 95 and W2K, and tried to re-install W2K from an Upgrade CD and have had a devil of a time installing it. I follow the process all the way through including reponding to its asking for NT4 or 95 CD along the way.

Any suggestions?

install NT4 and then run the winnt32 upgrade utility under the x:\i386\winnt32.exe where x is your CDROM.. it may be lengthy but is saves headaches

Thank you.
After much patience and repeated attempts I succeeded. I had two 2mb partitions. I formatted the first partition with nothing but DOS. no ther file except command.com
The I did the usual of putting the W2K CD in the drive and onwards. Still have no diea why it hung up a couple of times before even though nothing new was added or taken away since.

Could be a bad CD.

You mentioned that you are using an upgrade cd. You must have an OS to upgrade from in order to use this the upgrade version. Try getting a full version and installing. Thats the only thing I can think of. Good luck.
