You need to give us a bit more information here: What are the specifications of your computer? DO they meet the minimum standards for Win2000? When the system is halted, what do you see? Blue screen? Any error messages? Or does the computer just halt and power off? Is the computer new, or was it working previously? Are you upgrading from a previous version of Windows?
etc.

1st checked your BIOS ? if your m/b is 1 year or older ? you may need to upgrade it (flash BIOS). Check the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List for your hardware ? it may be not supported.

check the bios, if you are doing a clean install remove all adapters and pci cards. if your video card is pci leave it in there. remove all others. Your computer must be advance power management complient. The mother board is 90 % of the time the cause. some boards can not hold up to windows 2000. Other times the pci cards fail install because the drivers can not load during install or cause conflicts. isa cards will kill an install.

hi
your hardware may not be supported by win2kpro
boot in with a windows98 bootdisk, or any bootdisk that has cdrom drivers,
change to the cdrom directory
and run the winnt /checkupgradeonly
command
this should check your comp
to see if the hardware is supported
