installing windows 98

By faten.hamdan ·
I have installed windows 98 on a Pentium 4, 2.0 HD, and 512 ddram , but I noticed that the system is slow at start up, some have told me that the Windows 98 does not benefit from all the power of the pentium 4, is it true or what is the problem, please note that it's a new PC.
thank you

I think your bottlenect here are:
- Yes, P4 does not perform in Win98
- Your HDD is 2.0GB which lead to a slower rpm of spinning, try to get a latest HDD and see the difference.

Noted that I saw a case where Windows 98 that installed in a system, once it is migrated to a P4 box, it just won't bootup.
Too sorry that MS has not support Windows 98 anymore. Use Windows 2000 or XP.

If your machine is new, isn't that supposed to be 20 GB? Yes, 98 was never optimised to operate on the P4 architecture, but also it was never meant to address that much RAM also. It takes more time for 98 to address the RAM needed, than it is to use it. Therefore, just use a later OS, ie XP or 2k. It will be quicker
