Installing Windows XP

By nitobd ·
HI,

I recently upgraded my windows 2000 to XP.After the windows finished installing, the computer rebooted for the first time with window XP, but it wont show me the Log in screen. It gives me a blue screen with stop: 0x0000007F (0x0000000D, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). However, I am able to boot it up on Safe Mode. Can someone tell me what can I do to fix it?

Some one told me that I have to erase everything and install a fresh one. There is any way I can back up my file and the programs installed on the disk?(I kw I can use the disk as slave in a second computer and save the files, but where about the programs. There is any way to save them and install them back again if you dont have the program's disks?)

Thanks

Hmm, first off you cannot copy program files from one drive to another, especially without the OS, and have them work. They would need to be re-registered in the OS, so you need the program cds.

As for your error, I think that stop error is memory related. What kind of system is it, specifically motherboard and RAM? I would try swapping out the RAM or just removing the sticks individually to see if one is corrupt. Are you over-clocking your system? Try not doing that.

Just some suggestions for now.

Hi.. Check out this..
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prmd_stp_ukdq.asp

And.. if you want to save your program files... and things.. you can do a repair.. (the above problem related to new hardware device or defective memory). for repair.. boot with a windows xp cd. go to start. then say fresh installation..(This fresh installation wont erase your file unless u specify in Second screen). In the second screeen, it will show the location of the windows xp installation (like c:\windows). there you just go for a repair. it will erase only system files and redo the whole process. (believe me.. your program files wont be effected). Remember: Press Repair in Second screen.

all the best

You need your program disks, because programs write into the system registry, without which they cannot work. As such, copying the program files will be of no use.

As for your able to boot up in safe mode, try bootlog. At your system properties find a dialog box (i forgot where) that shows you the choices along with winXP bootup. select with bootlog, and after booting again, you'll know what went wrong by looking into this bootlog.txt file.
