If it will not validate................

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to my desktop wont valadate

If the desktop is new and it will not validate, it's possible you purchased it from an outfit that sells pirated software. Call Microsoft. You MAY be able to validate it over the phone. No matter what, they'll want to know who is selling products that won't validate.

There will be a sticker on the side. When you call Microsoft and read them the number they will give you a new one. If you do not have a number they will not give you one. It is my understanding that they also invalidate that number, so don't use your buddy Fred's or he'll be pissed when he gets his little message box telling him that his copy is invalid and certain features will no longer work. I've had to do this for customers a number of times and it has always been quick and painless.

You can if ...

I do it at home. However both computers are almost identical, so that might have something to do with it. You can install and activate, but can only register one time.

That is also illegal unless you have the correct product

Sure in a Home situation you may be less likely to get caught but if it ever happens you deserve everything that you get as you are stealing from M$ and they are big & rich enough to look after themselves.

If you have different Product Keys for the same product

by OH Smeg In reply to installing windows xp on ...

You can use the one Install CD to install as many copies as you like. But if you are planning on installing the software with the same Product Keys on more than 1 computer and you have a OEM Copy of Windows this is unacceptable to M$. They will quite rightly consider that you are stealing from them.

However if you have a Retail copy of XP you can install this on 2 computers. It really depends on what you have in the way of M$ product.

You need two licenses; one for each computer.
