Installing XP on a Sony Viao

By danielfountain ·
Hi,
I recently brought a Sony Viao PCG-7134M. It came, obviously, with Vista Home Premium. The problem is, I need to install Windows XP Professional for the laptop to connect to our domain. I tried to install Windows XP Pro, but when it had done its load up routine, it came up saying: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program."

One, the laptop didnt come with any manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program, and two, I know the disk works as I have installed Ubuntu onto the computer to check if the HD is working and it works fine.

Can anyone shed any light on this??

Thanks

You need to include the SATA Driver for this NB to work

by OH Smeg In reply to Installing XP on a Sony V ...

You may be able to get a XP SATA Driver from the Sony Web Site and then use something like nLite to slipstream your Install Disc. Though you will need the correct Model of NB here as all Sony Vaio's start with a VGN.

You can get nLite from here

Just be sure to read the directions listed here
