installing xp on linpus acer netbook?

By ehtisham.andrabi ·
i have got my pendrive setup etc, booted from it, and this is what i get when i select first option to install text mode etc

To install Windows xp on the partition u selected setup must write some files to the following disk

152626MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 atapi [MBR]

however this disk does not contain a windows XP compatable partition,

press enter to seup parition etc,

So i press enter,

and when i select to setup or create a partition the laptop just reboots itself,

am i doing something wrong or mising something?

So what is on the HDD now?

by OH Smeg In reply to installing xp on linpus a ...

If it's got some form of Linux Loaded you need to make some free space to load XP to, it can not be loaded to an existing Linux Partition.

If you want to use gparted to resize the partitions and make soem space, or just format the whole drive as fat32/ntfs. then run the installer

You need to right Model Number

by OH Smeg In reply to installing xp on linpus a ...

According to the Acer Web Site the Aspire 1 Notebooks Model Numbers start with an A not a D like "AOD260"

Actually the full model range Designations is

AO722
AO751h
AO752
AO753
AOA110
AOA150
AOD150
AOD250
AOD255
AOD255E
AOD257
AOD260
AOHAPPY
AOHAPPY2
AOP531h

Though you could try Unknown Device Identifier to find out what Hardware you have and then download the correct drivers from that Hardware Makers Web Site

http://www.fileheap.com/software-unknown-device-identifier-download-34861.html

It will be a bit of messing around but it's probably faster than expecting Acer to supply drivers for hardware that they sell and do not support for Windows.

However assuming that the AOD257 is the model you are looking for Acer only has Windows 7 32 Bit Drivers not any XP Drivers which may very well mean that there are no XP Drivers for that Hardware.

If that's the case you can install XP but the hardware that is not supported by the Native XP install and needs specialized drivers isn't going to work.

You'll need to use the Unknown Device Identifier to see what Hardware you have and then search for what drivers you can get.

Aspire One D257 is a netbook.
http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/series/aspireoned257

I cannot connect through this device to run the device identifier or a driver locator

Actually I have one of these multiboot it tween macos linux (backtrack) and winxp so,,
yes oddly this acer aspire one aod257 is basicly a generic off the shelf with a bigger hard drive I am still locating drivers myself but yes you can go directly to a intel gma 950 video driver as a aexample and the other hardware is old enough that the drivers seem to exist with the only exception so far for me being 2 the wireless in macos and the card reader in mac os,, (not big issues as I plan on changing out the wireless anyhow and the card reader is rumored to be able to load ,, anyway don't give up and yes it can and is being done,,, I too have to profile mine then search via google each driver,, there is no site for these os's on this machine...
