I have a Sony Vaio with a cracked (non-readable) LCD. Was using the laptop with an external monitor with no problems. Decided to do the annual Windows re-load to clean up the accumulated junk and now can’t get past the initial install. I’m using the Sony recovery disks and everything is fine until the “remove the DVD and reboot” point in the sequence.
At this (and all subsequent) reboot, the Sony bios splash shows on the external monitor and then the Windows load screen. Once windows is loaded, the external monitor loses its signal and, I assume, switches to the LCD. Windows is running, since the music plays, but the fn keys to control volume, mute, display intensity, and external monitor are not yet functional. I’ve tried booting in safe mode, but get a pop-up saying windows is not done loading. The bios setup screens are very basic and I can’t find anything useful there to control video output.
Any ideas? I’m hoping to get this laptop back into service before the new year.
Thanks
