Installing XP SP2 with the firewall off

    Locked

    by unclebyron ·

We are using SUS to installed XP SP2 on domain computers. It installs with the Firewall running. I want to turn it off without having to login as an Administrator on each machine. The ordinary users don’t have the rights to do this. I’ve searched the domain GPO for a firewall setting but cannot find anything. Is there a way to do this through the GPO? Or is there a better way?

No you are out of luck here when SP2 is installed the Firewall is turned on by default and there is no way around this. That is how it’s been designed to work.

Your only option appears to be to turn off the Firewalls on each machine locally with the Admin Account or a Power Users Account. This isn’t a problem that I’ve run into previously but then again we didn’t push SP2 out by SUS as it isn’t a Patch but more of a rewrite of the early XP OS so we installed SP2 locally on every machine to prevent problems.
