Installing yahoo messenger

By tlawyer ·
When I attempt to install Yahoo messender I get an error message that says:
C:\winnt\system32\config.nt
The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows application.
The program then does not install. What is the workaround for windows 2000.

Increase the files in config.nt from 40 to say 65 or 80. Config.nt is found in your winnt\system32 directory, and windows uses it as as the equivelent to config.sys for apps that require config.sys

Do a Shift/right click on the config.nt file & select open with. Then select Notepad. The file is full of remarks, but at the bottom you will see this:
dos=high, umb
device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
files=40
Change files=40 to files=80
Then save the file and exit notepad.
Hope that helps.
