in trying to integrate these into an existing NT 4.0 Single domain structure. Here’s what happens:
1) Connect the new 2000 server to network and add it on the NT 4.0 PDC as a new member server of the existing domain. Results: Can not login to the new 2000 server at the terminal or any where else; NT 4.0 sees the machine name but will allow NO access to the 2000 server whatsoever; gives an error msg about trust relationship not specified,
2) Disconnect the server from the network and reboot as a standalone unit and I can login to the terminal using the Administrator’s password for the domain and login ok. (figure that out).
3) From what I’ve been reading about 2000 server it will not integrate into an existing NT 4.0 without doingone of the following:
a) Upgrade the current NT 4.0 PDC to Win2000 PDC then add the new servers to the cluster
or
b) Setup the new 2000 servers in their own domain and establish a trust relationship between the new domain and the existing domain.
I guess my question to you is- Is it possible to set up a win2000 server as a member server on the existing domain to be used as a file server or would you concur with the options listed above? ( I agree that using a win2000 server, especially if it was free is probably not the most productive way to use those resources).
