Intel 815E/ATA 100/ Windows 2000 snafu

by scottcox . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

I have a NEW Intel 815EEA board, a New WD 20.5gb/7200 hard drive, new SD133 memory sticks, and a new 80 pin connector cable. I really want to complete an initial Windows 200 Pro installation uisng thsi supposedly “high speed” combination.
However, I keep getting paging errors and cannot find boot drive error messages after initial load on either entire HD NTFS partition or a partial load of 4gb. I have swapped memory out, swapped cables (even going to the 40 pin cable). Strangely enough, I getsimilar issues when trying an initial Win 98 load as well as an NT 4.0 load (after fdisk-ing previous aborts) The HD is OK–it is now sitting on another system. I have gone to the Intel web sight and downloaded the latest board and chip set drivers.Although the site specifically mentioned known problems, there was no immediatley available “initial format/load” discussion/resolution. Essentially,I found zero support but a lot of the same kinds of problems noted in a few discussion threads in W2K. The Microsoft web maze offered upvery little, essentially in same vein.
Where do I go from here?
