INTEL I/O APIC IRQ FEATURE

by TheChas In reply to INTEL I/O APIC IRQ FEATUR ...

All of the information that I am finding on APIC (Advanced Programmable Interupt Controller) relates to multi-processor systems.

The D850GB is a single CPU board, and does have some APIC features built into the Intel 850 chipset.

However, I found nothing relating to additional IRQs, only improved handling of IRQ functions.

As you may have seen, Windows XP overrides the motherboard IRQ assignments.
In fact, most devices are assigned to a single IRQ!
I see this as Microsoft moving awayfrom the use of IRQs because of the limits of the old technology.
