Intel or AMD

By das ·
We are going to replacing some old Dual PII 400 NT systems for our 3D animation and Digital Content Creation studios.

In your opinions, which CPU/motherboard setup is the best at this moment.

Our work involves a lot of 3D rendering, video editing and special effects.

Thank you.

Intel or AMD

Greetings,

You will definitely get a variety of answers to this question. The opinions will be based on experience. In my experience, machines with AMD processors have been the most problematic for me. Therefore, I'll never buy them or recommend them.

My best experiences have been with Intel Socket 370 running on Asus boards. The exact model of board would vary (at this point), depending on the speed of processor and/or single vs. dual processor. But definitely Intel on Asus.

Regards,
Maxwell

I will agree with the first answer that you will get many opinions on this, and just keep in mind that that's all they are unless someone provides you with verifiable info. That said, I have never had any problems with AMD chips. I THINK that if you want absolute performance, right now AMD is your choice. Intel P4's may have a much higher clock speed than the fastest AMD, but there is much more that affects performance, and there are many benchmarks where Intel is best at certain things, andAMD is best at certain things, but overall and in more "real-world" oriented tests, I think AMD comes out a little ahead. Not only that, but at a much better price. Try checking these sites for some hard stats.

Great help. Thanks to all for your responses. I'm putting together a couple of dual 1800MP systems now based on the above help and links.

Ditto answer#2. However, with the type of work that you are doing, the video card is going to make a huge difference in overall performance.

I do agree with number 2 also, you can get a AMD Atlhon MP at a very atractive cost and it has the most powerfull FPU (essencial for 3D), for MB i would sugest Tyan Tiger MP (dual cpu and DDR RAM). You can find a review for both at www.anandtech.com
