Intel PIV (HT) or AMD Athlon 64

For a pc that is primarily to be used for gaming which microprocessor is better.

Pentium IV
Lower heat problem
CPU speed is correctly posted
Less likely to overclock,so you have to decide before hand
What one has the other also offers something that makes it competitive

Well as a general rule of thumb the AMD CPU's are preferred by the gamers although a Athlon 64 is over kill for the current crop of OS & Game applications as you are just not using the full capacity of the CPU's and Chip sets on the M'Board.

If you want reliability the Intel is the better option but I would be going for one of the Pentium D Processors as they are just plain and simple faster.
