Intermittent network connection issue – ping request timed out

by kmutale . Updated 18 years, 10 months ago

I have a laid an STP cable for a distance of 70 metres. On one end, it is connected to D-lint 8-port switch and on the other end, it is connected to a PC. A cable tester (in fact 2 different ones)is NOT detecting any problem with the cable. It is perfect! When I ping another PC on the LAN, it responding once or twice, then it times out for a long time, then restablishes the connection with 1 or 2 replies and the connection desappears again. Some network commands are not working on the new PC we have connected e.g. route add, route delete etc. When you do apr -a or route print, some of the values are confusing. It is returning the ip address of the PC as a gateway. When you try to delete this route, it complains that the route is not found. Its mind boggling!!

I would appreciate anyone with a solution to this issue. Many thanks and regards.
