Intermittent NT login

by jfp51 . Updated 25 years, 2 months ago

Hello,

I am having this problem with some NT workstations at a client site. Sometimes, they will not be able to login to the domain. I believe it has something to do with the fact that they are on a different network than the WINS servers, and that the route to the WINS servers is too long. Since they are in M-Node resoltuion, they then try to broadcast and since there are no DC’s on their segment, login fails.

The workstations are on 172.x.x.x, and the WINS servers are on 159.x.x.x. There are approximately 10 BDC’S spread out all over Paris so I can’t tell you exactly what the address’ are.

My solutions are:

1. Put WINS server on 172.x.x.x
2. Put BDC on 172.x.x.x segment

Is there any other maybe simpler way to solve this problem that I may have overlooked? Namely route configuration on the routers between these networks? Short of allowing broadcasts through (not going to happen), what else can I look at and suggest?

Thanks,
JF Prieur
