Intermittent Wi-Fi Disconnects on Windows 11 After May 2025 Update

    by alasdadigga ·

    Dear TechRepublic Community,

I’m experiencing intermittent Wi-Fi disconnects on my Windows 11 Pro (build 24H2, KB5037862, May 2025) laptop (Dell XPS 13 9315, Intel Core i7-1250U). The Wi-Fi drops every 10-20 minutes, showing “No Internet, Secured.” Reconnecting via Network Settings temporarily resolves it. Router: TP-Link Archer AX50, 5GHz, WPA3.

    System Info:

    OS: Windows 11 Pro, 64-bit, version 24H2
    Network Adapter: Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211, driver v23.30.0.6 (Feb 2025)
    BIOS: Dell v1.12.0 (Mar 2025)
    Antivirus: Windows Defender, up-to-date
Environment: Edge 126, no VPN, home network
    Steps Tried:

Updated Wi-Fi driver from Intel’s site.
Ran Network Troubleshooter: “Windows can’t communicate with the device or resource.”
Reset network settings (netsh winsock reset, ipconfig /flushdns).
Disabled power-saving for Wi-Fi adapter in Device Manager.
Switched to 2.4GHz band; issue persists.
Tested on another network; same disconnects.
Checked Event Viewer: “WLAN-AutoConfig Event ID 4001” at disconnects.
Could this be a Windows update bug or driver conflict? Any tips for deeper diagnostics or fixes? Your expertise is much appreciated! 😊

    Best,

    Darshan

      Do other devicescomputers disconnect?

If so, it could be a router/wap (wifi access point) issue. I’m currently on a Dell Latitude 3190 with Win11Pro 24H2, only issues with wifi I have is when mobile hotspot is acting up (use wife’s iPhone with Mobile Hotspot) and when it happens, it affects all connected devices. Sometimes the hotspot will reconnect, sometimes you have to open the Settings/Personal Hotspot on the iPhone then it reconnects. So check other devices and see if problems continue. If you have another router/wap, try it. It could also be your ISP having technical issues, so contacting them may be necessary.

I tested other devices (phone, tablet) on the same TP-Link Archer AX50 router; they stay connected. Switched to my iPhone’s hotspot—same Wi-Fi drops on my Dell XPS 13 (Win11 Pro 24H2). ISP confirmed no outages. Could it be a Windows driver issue? 😊

Following your advice, I rolled back the Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 driver to v22.170.0.3 (Oct 2024) via Device Manager. Disconnects reduced but still occur every 30-40 minutes. No other devices drop on the TP-Link router. Could a registry tweak help? Thanks for the guidance! 😊

It could be a hardware issue. Try WiFi via USB-adapter. For example, see https://www.amazon.com?k=usb+wifi (not a recommendation for that particular shop, just to show what’s available).

If the laptop is still in warranty, the ultimate test is to go back to factory conditions (for example, via the recovery drive you made when you bought it). If it still happens then, the shop or Dell should repair it under warranty.

I rarely find this to be a driver issue.

Besides, drivers are updateable. I won’t write how here.

What I usually do is pull out some USB WiFi adapter from my PC repair kit/bag and test with that.

For laptops the owners usually use said USB stick because that’s the cheap fix.
