I keep getting these nagging little IE advertisement windows. No sooner do I click one away, the same one or a new one comes right up again.

In addition to that, I get the IE message that someone is trying to drop a cookie.

The real nagger is that when I click to refuse the cookie, the advertisement window still comes up! And then I may have several windows which all have to be closed individually, and sometimes do not even show up in the task bar and I see it first when I go to the desktop.

How do I prevent either:
1. The site from sending the advertisement?
2. Or when the message window comes up informing me about it and I click to refuse, how to keep the advertisement window from still popping up?

If you are talking about pop-up and pop-under windows, you can install software to block them.

www.popupstopper.net
www.spywaresucks.org

There are others but this will get you started.

You can also switch to the k-meleon web browser that has built in pop-up blocking.

Even though these sites offer solutions, I was hoping not to have to purchase something, but was looking for just some setting in IE or a freeware tool. I cannot understand why this cannot be prevented with IE as IE is the basis for allowing this capability....
Don't really want to change to another browser.

Hi, There are a number of utility programs that are available to eliminate these annoying popups. I use PopUp killer. You can download it free from

http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10059-100-7834804.html

Hope this helps.

OOps I just went out to the site and found out that the developer has discontinued supporting the product. You could also try PopUp Stopper or PopUp Smasher.

Another blocking software that is good is AdSubtract - www.adsubtract.com. It will block the banner ads in all websites and all those extraneous windows as well. It allows you to customize so that you can accept ads and/or cookies from certain sitesand not others, etc. Hope this helps!
