i’m on a friend’s computer, using Firefox, looking at a page on a favorite website, with an interview in videos, part 1 and 2. i listen to part 1 and then start part 2. in the middle of part 2, i decide i want to save both, using RealPlayer’s new service… BUT my friend’s RP isnt updated with the new video saver.
so… i open a new tab and download the RP update, reboot and reopen the same videos page, from the history sidebar. much to my chagrin, part 2 is gone! no matter what kind of navigating i do, it wont come back — in Firefox — BUT, AHA! i open an IE and presto! there’s both videos, neat as a pin. great, i save both videos as RP files, before anything else goes wrong.
now, i empty every temp file in the computer, use both browsers’ “clear cache” (and cookies) facilities, and try to bring in both parts of the video interviews, but to no avail. firefox has been permanently banned from part 2.
i have no idea how RealPlayer did that, but i’m about 98% sure it was RP that crippled the firefox.
does anyone know what the deal is, whether it’s something RP installed in the registry or what?
i wrote to the website’s exec. director, since the site has an article about how certain big mail servers have been sending the site’s newsletter to subscribers’ bulk folders, even after the subs have adjusted their settings to accept from that site… or worse, just not accepting the newsletter anywhere, anytime.
is anyone else having this trouble? and is this the tip of a dangerous iceberg freezing out our wondrously democratic internet?
