Internet connection

ISP is telstra bigpond but when try to connect to bigpond home page computer freezes up, will not even Ctrl alt del, have to shut down. System does not freeze under normal use until you try to connect to bigpond home page. Took the computer back to my place and does the same thing. Tried a different modem, same thing. Uninstalled Nortons internet security, still freezes. Changed the home page from bigpond to MSN and works okay, you can browse any sites until you try to bring up bigpond home page, then freezes again. Been on to Bigpond tech help phone line, three times with different operators. System settings all okay, deleted all cookies, history, repaired IE,(6) but still freezes as soon as you get onto bigpond page, You can browse on the internet for an hour but will still freeze at bigpond. Bigpond Techs say very weird but cannot help anymore. No viruses as done an online virus check, reloaded Nortons and liveupdate then scanned hard drive again, no viruses found. Bigpond say firewall but still froze after I had uninstalled Nortons. I did notice on bigpond site(when I did get on there) a note saying go to Symantec if problems with email/connections, but then it just said to run liveupdate to fix problem. Besides I have bigpond dial up and Nortons Interent security 03, and not problems, There has to be still something on her computer that is making it freeze. Running Win98 + updates. She now has computer back connecting with MSN but a bit ridiculous when your ISP is bigpond and cannot connect to their site. I have suggested a complete clean out and re-install, any suggestions.
