I’m working on a Win98se peer to peer network with 10 PCs, DSL connection & Cisco 678 router. When I did the initial install everything was up and running just fine. The only shares are printers and ACT database folder. The company buys and sells used furniture and computers. The owner recently hired a tech to build and repair systems. He decided for whatever reason to change the IP addresses. The original working setup had TCP/IP addresses 10.0.0.1 thru 10.0.0.11 with the first being the default for the router and used as gateway. Subnet is 255.255.255.0.
The tech for whatever reason changed the adresses to 192.168.0.254 for the router and gateway. The Pc’s which are numbered 192.168.0.1 thru 192.168.0.10 and same subnet. I have no prob with 192.168.0.XXX. works fine on all but 2 of the computers. Is there a problem with having the gateway set to xxx.xxx.xxx.254? Would that limit to 8 addresses? When I go back I’ll set the router to a lower IP add. than PCs.
Both computers cansee the local network but won’t connect to internet. DNS setup has been gone over a million times and is correct. Router can be pinged. 127.0.0.1 pings too. IE 6 and Winsock config removed and reinstalled. Tried with virus scan and firewall disabled.
Pissed off and lost. Help! Any ideals?
