The most common ICS error, is installing ICS on both PCs.

You install ICS on ONLY the PC with the internet connection.

Then, you create the disk, and install the client software on the other PC.

I know many people have had good success with ICS, but I still prefer a hardware solution. MultiTech has a dandy little device called the RoutFinder SOHO 550. You can share either a dial-up or a broad-band connection -- this was the reason I bought it, as most such devices are broadband only. It has competent enough firewall ability to keep most hackers at bay, and it's a breeze to setup. For those who need it, it has VPN capability as well.

You can buy them refurbed from MultiTech for $115.00, $160.00 from any number of on-line vendors.

If you have it, firewall software can stop the connection. So you need to go into the settings and allow the connection on both PCs. You didn't say if it was dialup or highspeed connection, but either way the computer that is sharing the connection has to be online first before the other system can connect. For me that's one of the drawbacks of ICS. If you haven't done that then get online first then try the other computer.

Something that may resolve your problem. On both PCs, open the networking properties and open TCP/IP for the network adapter. Write down all settings so you can restore if needed. Uninstall the TCP/IP for the network adapter, TCP/IP for the dialup adapter doesn't matter. Then select add protocol and install netbeui if it's not already there. By using this protocol for the local network your shares won't show over the internet(WAN). Then run the ICS setup again.
