Internet Connection Sharing

By milesrrs ·
Hi
i am running w2k server and i am trying to get internet connection sharing working.
I did have it working but since rebuilding both machines (w2k and 98se), i cannot get it working again.
I have DNS setup so i can PING on either machine with both IP add and Machine Name and it works...so DNS is working.
The 98 machine is being assigned an IP add by the DHCP on w2k...that is working other wise i would not be able to access the network.
i have obviously got ICS enabled on the connection on the w2k machine......so has any one got any ideas on what else to check (yes i am using 192.168.0.1 on the server and the 98 machine is being assigned 192.168.0.2)

help.....

Adrian

Trivial question - did you share your DUN connection after you re-installed win2000? You probably did, but...

I am doing the same thing as you (not 98SE I must admit on the 2nd PC, also Win2000) and it is fine - my wife is checking her email even as I type).

Anyway, check the DUN sharing.

Disable DNS server on you w2k server.
When you enable ICS - it's working as DHCP and DNS for you workgroup. From w98 PC you can ping using IP address but not by name - because you have active DNS server - probably set as SOA, which is trying to resolve names to IP-addresses.

I don't have my ICS in front of me, but as I recall, Win98 required that a "client for ICS" be installed on the Win98 box. This client is generated on the ICS "server".
