Internet Connection Sharing with DSL

By lchacon ·
I just switch to DSL, and before this i had a dial-up connection; I have a peer to peer network for personal use, now that I have DSL my internet connection sharing dosen not work, but the printer and files sharing work. Does anybody know or has a peer to peer network and DSL? Waht do I have to configure?

Thank you
Luis

Hopefully you have a DSL connection you can plug into your HUB. If you may be out of luck. If the DSL if USB or directly connected to one of the computers you can try the MS internet connection wizard. Make sure all your ip addresses on the network start out with 192 or 10 and give it a try, persuming that you have windows 2K or Me on the other computers.

First you need to nic's in your connection sharing computer. One connected to the DSL modem, the other connected to your hub. The nic connected to the DSL will be your WAN connection, and the nic connected to your hub will be your LAN connection. To implement this setup with windows, you will need to install ICS for your new configuration. Simply remove ICS and reinstall it. If you have a variety of windows OS's on your LAN, it will be easier to setup manually than to use the client disk. Enter the tcp/ip properties page and enter the information for your network; ie. gateway: 192.168.0.1, primary dns: 216.88.54.2, secondary dns: 223.255.0.2. Your dns server information can easily be acquired by running winipcfg (win9x-me); ipconfig /all (nt-xp).

You will find that this is very similar to the configuration you are already familiar with for a dial-up ICS network.

Happy surfing
