internet connection thru the LAN

By dcunningham ·
Our LAN has a DSL connection to the internet thru a local ISP. I added a desktop in the office and connected it to the LAN. All of the computers in the office can connect to the internet via the LAN except the new one. What must be done to enable internet access for this new computer?
LAN- NT Back Office Small Business Server
New Desktop- Windows 98 on Dell desktop

Have you set the pc up with an IP address? Unless you have a DHCP server on your network, you will have to assign each pc with an ip addess, DNS name and gateway on the correct segment. If you have a proxy server, be sure your internet software is pointing to the correct named proxy.
Also, can you do an ip ping? inside your network? outside the network?
You didn't give enough info, but that should be a start.

You did not mentioned, but my guess is that you have a Proxy Server running. If that's the case, in the Browser, you have to go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Lan Settings and set it just like the other PCs.

Good luck!
