(Asuming you are using XP)Go to control panel, add/remove programs, select FireFox and remove.
Then on the Left pane of the window, select add/remove window components and untick explorer. Once explorer has been removed, click on start and select windows update, this will not only scan and restore your explorer but also update it to the latest version.

Uninstalling Firefox

To uninstall Firefox, follow these instructions:

I'm wondering if your problem is actually related to Firefox and IE. I have them both installed and have noticed no conflicts.

Perhaps something is blocking access to some of your websites. Ensure that you are virus and adware/spyware free first. Could be a DNS problem also. I'll let someone more knowledgable help you out on that possibility.

See link below for instructions on reinstalling IE.

I agree with Dalton. I don't think it's a Firefox issue. I have both ie and Firefox (from version .8 on) and have never had a problem. They do not conflict with one another. If you can't get to a website with either browser then it's probably a dns issue or a malware issue. What is the error you receive? Is it just "Page not found" or what? What is the website you're trying to get to? Is it being blocked through a spyware program or through your hosts file?

Post back with a little more info.

Cheers.
