Internet Explorer 6 C++ runtime error.

By fruelund ·

I have Internet Explorer 6 on a Win XP sp2 OS machine. Whenever I try clicking a link from my gmail I get the same error:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I have read up on various forums regarding this issue, and everywhere it is recommended that you uninstall google toolbar. I have done that, and I still get the error whenever I click a link from google gmail.

I currently use firefox now because of this issue, but Firefox has it's own annoying bugs and I'd rather use Internet Explorer. Does anyone have a suggestion for how to solve this issue?

Have you tried reinstalling IE6?

Tried that too

It isn't possible to completely remove and reinstall IE6 on windows XP. I have tried it several times and it doesn't work.

Uninstalling IE6 is Painful

Probably because Internet Explorer 6 SP1 is included with Windows XP SP1 and Windows XP SP2.

If you have XP SP2, then the link below suggests to reapply XP SP2
