Internet Explorer Errors

By ljackson.desoto ·
I have been having trouble with internet explorer. I was on 5.0 and it lost it's tool bar and would not browse to some pages. I finally got the toolbar back, but it still will go to some pages and say done, but there is no info on the page. I don't even get the page not available message. I upgraded to ie 6.00 and I am still not able to view some pages. I also cannot right click or download files anymore since the upgrade (if I try to download, it opens up a browser screen with what looks like gibberish. I also cannot open add-remove programs to uninstall. I get an error message that says mshta.exe has generated and error and then closes. I am running windows 2k professional. Help!

I would first try to scan the computer for a virus. No matter how messed up IE is, you should ALWAYS be able to open add/remove programs.

Thanks - I have run a scan on the computer twice. No virus found. I have automatic updates running and it is up-to-date within a couple days alll the time.

This might not fix your issue, but it's worth a try:
MS KB article 285195 - Mshta.exe Error Message Appears When You Start the Add/Remove Programs Tool in Control Panel - http://tinyurl.com/5nj9

Good luck!

I might as well display the jist of the article since it's short:

To resolve the behavior, type the following commands in the Run dialog box:
sfc /purgecache
sfc /scannow

Again, Good luck!

This is the first answer I got and I put the comment in the wrong place, but basically when I do this it asks for the installation disk and then does not recognoze it even though the disk tries to auto start for a new install (which I cancel)
