Internet Explorer Homepage was stolen!

By kenlotze ·
When I start Internet Explorer, my homepage now is: http://www.syssecurity.net/
I want http://www.msn.com back!
Also, It says I have a virus: w32.Myzor.FK@yf, and that I should use: Intrusion Detection System (IDS Software)
I did try and change my tools/Internet Options/Homepage, but it doesn't work. I use "Freedom" and "Windows Live Onecare/Defender", and I do have the XP firewall turned on, and I use a Linksys Router.
Any other ideas???
Thanks- kenlotze@yahoo.com

It appears that you are infected with a virus and a trijan that hi-jacked your home page. It takes you to their home page and want you to buy their software to clean it out. They are the perpetrators of the trojan. I found the only way to get rid of it was a clean install of the OS. Try to get all of your photos, music and data off before se-instakking. The trojan is buried in the registry and possibly in the root. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Good Luck

A good suggestion. But before you do that, you should try to use anti-spywares or antivirus programs to remove the culprit. Usually Homepage modifications are done by spywares. Use Safer Networking.org's Spybot S&amp or Lavasoft's Ad-Aware antispyware programs; they are free and they're good enough to track down any spyware. You should also use merijn.org's hijackthis; this software can track down almost all of the running processes and start-up registry keys in your system. If the solutions I have stated doesn't work, then that's the time when you should reformat your drive.

I would download hijackthis 1.99.1 from: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html and If the problem is not obvious then post the hijack log on the SpyWarrior website at: http://spywarewarrior.com/index.php
They are very thorough
You might also try cwshredder which you can get at: http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html

Just remember to run the Scans in Safe Mode to make sure that you make it as easy as possible to remove this problem.

All the listed Programs will run in Safe mode but just make sure that they are all updated before you Boot into Safe Mode and while you can try Safe Mode with Networking I've always found it better not to use this option as it allows more drivers to be installed where the infections may be hiding.

Failing that you can always remove the HDD and scan in in another computer as a Slave or in a USB Caddy so without anything running you are far more likely to get the problem file. Just stick to Spy Bot S&amp or Ad-aware when you do this as they shouldn't hurt the Boot Files for Windows but I would have a full Backup in place before attempting this.
