internet explorer "not responding"

By jmac0225 ·
I am running Win XP, on DSL, 320 ram, IE6.
I've tried this question before, but see a pattern to it now. Whenever I click on a link, and a pop-up ad appears, I freeze up and get a "not responding" error. When I go to task manager, it is the original page that has stopped responding. If I can catch and close the pop-up right away, sometimes I am able to avert the freezing. It happens more frequently when I have more links open, by that I mean maybe 3 or more.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I have applied all patches for I.E.6
THANKS! Jeff

This could be a java script error that is corrupt
Open IE,select Tools from task bar menu, click on Internet Options, select the Advanced tab,go to Microsoft VM,make sure that the last box is only one enabled

Other options to consider is to restore to previous version of IE using the Add/Remove programs, then reinstalling IE6

Check the Help menu in IE and slect About IE,make sure that you have 128 bit encryption installed

The last option would be to use the utility IERADICATOR to uninstall IE,then reinstall a fresh download

2)www.pctip.ch/downloads/dl/18320.asp
3)http://download.pchome.net/internet/browser/plugin/10053.html

Check the C:\WINDOWS\Programs to see if the IE setup folder is listed, ifnot then you will need to open regedit to locate and delete

Thanks for all your help soulrider, I ended up having to go into the registry and change it's value from 1 to 0, then I was able to re-install IE6. everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks again, you worked hard on this one! Jeff
