with AOL you need to connect first, then start up IE. If IE won't connect, see AOL help. 'go home network' probably...you need to change your connection type in your AOL location.
i need more info to help you out. are you on DSL. are your trying tonetwork your internet connection...
if yes to above, this is known issue. get help from AOL.

Do you have IE set to always dial my default connection? AOL is the worst, their program attempts to take control of win programs all the time. If possible get rid of AOL it's a parasite and their support is horrible. I never understand why people are so loyal to that company. Oh well!! If you could give more info as to the failure of the connection such as error codes or text of failure we can better assist you.

By "connect" do you mean it won't dial and make an ISP connection, or that it won't load any web pages once you're dialed in?
If it's not bringing up any web pages, the first thing I always check is to make sure "work offline" isn't checked under the File menu. Seems to turn itself on now and then, causing IE to suddenly not want to load any pages.
