Internet Explorer will not work

By Sarahbeth71187 ·
Computer was infected with a virus recently. The virus was saying you needed to purchase this Antisoft virus software before you could access the internet. Since I could not get to the internet I just left the computer alone for a week or two. Now I am able to get on the internet via AOL but not internet explorer. Have tried system restore and that is not working. I have tried reinstalling IE and that is not working. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I would greatly appreciate it.

System Restore does not fix these things.

Download MBAM
http://malwarebytes.org
Install it and run in Safe Mode.

Actually best to delete system restore points first, but I don't know if that is necessary for this malware.

Hitman PRO

Download Hitman PRO and run it from "safe mode with networking" from a USB flash drive. it seems that the bug is still there.

System restore wont remove the virus

by Snuffy09 In reply to Internet Explorer will no ...

you need to clean up the virus first

try:

Malwarebytes
Superantispyware
and Spybot search and destroy

you may have to download these to a thumb-drive on different computer and depending on how bad the virus is you may not even be able to install them. If so try a standalone tool such as Stinger

after you have a good handle on the virus try to uninstall IE from the windows components list and then reinstall it from component list. (ctrl panel/add/remove programs/left column/add remove windows components)
