Internet Inf. Services (IIS) won't start

By info ·
I have this most awkward situation in WIN XP Pro on my desktop machine. I found IIS to NOT start up any website anymore (Through IIS --> right click standard website --> "start"). It hanged. I also noticed, that the Virtual standard server for SMTP was stopped (x-mark). Trying to start that service also meant: a hanging computer.

I then completely de-installed the IIS service and all related components. Having done so, I re-installed the entire bunch if services/programs.

However... neither webistes, nor virtual SMTP server will start. Exactly the same problem: computer hangs! By the way: the IIS-service is set to "automatic" loading at startup, yet it has not been started.

I have looked into my laptop (approx. same configuration for particular program). There the IIS DOES function. From the "Services" panel - IIS-properties I read that IIS is dependent on RPC (Remote Procedure Call) and Security Accounts Manager.

When I want to look into the properties of services I get an error message "Win32: depending service or group cannot be started". (Or something similar, since this is a translation)

Who can help me to get my IIS back working? Please help!
