Internet/IP Problem setting up new users

    by nauger ·

I am running NT on a server and have about 20 users. I am setting up new users and I can connect to the server but not to the Internet. Where do I look for the problem? I must have reached some number of users and it won’t allow me to add more.

If you have a router it can be a router, however you really have not given us enough information here.

How many of your users cannot connect to the Internet? How many can? What protocols are you running? Have you enough IP addresses for all of your computers on the network? Are you using the IP address of the router as the gateway? Can your computers ping the router?

Make sure you have the default gateway and subnet mask defined on the client computers (or in the DHCP scope).

Example: It all the computers are on a subnet with address ranges from 192.168.0.1 through 192.168.0.255, the subnet mask would be 255.255.255.0 and the default router address would be the TCP/IP address of the server(Proxy/ISA or the router).

In general, it is best not to allocate all the addresses in a subnet range to DHCP. For example: define them to be from 192.168.0.5 through 192.168.0.250 in DHCP. That will leave you with 10 addresses for routers and servers.

Check your server’s license number. It sounds like you hit your limit on the license. It will cause this problem.
